Over the years the surgery premises have moved full circle. Our older patients will remember Dr Kate Elliott. For many years the surgery was in her house on Ilkeston Road almost directly opposite our current building where she was in partnership with Dr Jim Keane. Dr Pranab Mukherjee joined them in the early 1970s. When Dr Elliot retired in 1979 the surgery moved to the local authority Health Centre on Wilmot Street. Dr Peter Houghton took her place for a short while before moving to Derby with Dr Ilyas Ahmed then taking over. In 1983 Dr Keane retired and Dr Richard Lodge joined the practice. Through the 1980s the size of the practice slowly grew and as there was no room to expand within the Health Centre it was decided that a new surgery was required. We were fortunate to be able to purchase land from the Miners Welfare and built our current premises in 1989. Since then the building has undergone two extensions, in order to accommodate an ever-increasing number of patients and staff. Dr Mukherjee retired in 1999 and was replaced by Dr John Tompkinson. Since then both Dr Jayne Lynas and Dr Anne Tompkinson have joined us.
